Another traveling weekend....and some more advice needed!!!

Me and Lillian leave for Shushan again tomorrow and we have to make a pit stop at her new doctor so I can fill out some paper work. Other than that we don't really have anything planned. I know that I've said it countless times, but I'm ready for the traveling to be over with! I'm ready to call Vermont home. I'm ready to have a warm body in bed with me each night (I've been really cold lately!) I'm just ready to have my family back together.

I'm going to do some more doodles over the weekend and I'll be back next week to share. I've gotten a lot of traffic on my blog since I started sharing my watercolors and I was wondering if I could ask all of you a couple of questions.....

1) If you were to see my watercolors online for sale, would you buy them?
2) Would you change anything about them?
3) Would you buy custom made watercolors made specifically for your needs?

Let me know what you think, and all honesty is appreciated.......even if it's something I don't want to hear!!!! If I were to start selling them I would include a lot more doodles in each pack. I just have so many ideas in my head, on top of the ideas I've already been and I'm wondering if I could go somewhere with this. If you give me some advice on this topic, I'll make a special freebie next week and share with you so be sure to include a way for me to contact you with the link!

Carrie - First your Lillian is a real beauty!
Yes, I would purchase your drawings for ditital scrapbooking and cardmaking. As a grandmother of both boys and girls their isn't too much you have done that I will not use. The quality of your work is really good, honest.
The multi-colored doodle you did - those are very popular and yours was just wonderful.
You could do holidays and the stick family stuff you have done are really unique, well I haven't seen it anywhere. Now, how you turn this into a business I don't know. Can't help you with that! But put it on this blog if you do! Best of luck with this idea!

carrie, i love your art. i would buy it. i would hope it was budget-minded in price, but it would be worth splurging on, too. and i wouldn't change a thing. you have a great style! i think custom items would go over well. you might think about doing custom names - boy themed and girl themed packs that you can add names into for custom orders. why don't you try putting up a set of something for a donation to see if there's a market here on your blog? it would give you an idea of what people are willing to pay and if they would pay for your art doodles. just a thought ...

Thank-you so much ladies.....keep those suggestions coming. If I were to decide to start selling them, I would sell them at a much lower price than what I've seen other doodles go for on the web. To me, it seems a little outrageous to pay the same amount for something like that as compared to a paper pack, etc. So I guess we'll see what ends up happening. I would, of course, continue on offering freebies each week......there are so many things to draw it's hard not to share the love!!!! Thanks again and keep up with the advice!!!!

I think your doodles are special--not the typical doodles. THey are very whimsical and definitely think that viewers would purchase them. Do not change a thin--they're precious.

I would buy your doodles. I love them! To set a price on them I'd look around at other doodles in the digi-shops. Would you sell them on your blog?

I think your market would be huge for selling. I do.

I don't buy much of anything digital. Honestly. I have bought some, but I would say my entire digi experience has cost me $200 or less in 2 yrs.

I think your style is fabulous and that, yes, you would have a very good market. :)

I definitely think you could sell these. The first flower set was a little smaller than I normally would have preferred, but everything since is good sized, so maybe you are aware of that. It's easier to size down, sizing up you get grainy and blurry results. If you would be keeping the sets the same size, they would probably be priced below $3, however, if you add a 2-4 more pieces per set, you could maybe get $4-5. I suggest you look at DAISIE Company as a possible sales site, they have other art of this type and a strong customer base. There are some other great stores for beginning designers, including: http://www.ScrapOutsidetheBox.com,
http://www.digitalscrapbookpages.com,
and http://www.thedailyscrap.com.

My email is jkdorn@comcast.net if you want to contact me.

Good luck!! :D

Ok - I'm the odd one here. I've been visiting and collectiong your doodles and I'm not even a doodle fan (yes that's the odd part). Your stuff is good!!!!
I really liked your idea about "custom" watercolors. I find myself picking up lots of freebies just because I can't find exactly what I want either in freebies or for sale (and I'm really not far enough along in this process to create my own), so then I have a pile of stuff and still don't have what I wish i had. Being able to get a custom packet sounds like heaven to me! As to suggestions about what to change...your might want to look for themes that there aren't 50,000 of the same thing of.

Your doodles are unique and very beautiful. You have a great talent. I think you could very easily sell custom doodles. Have a great weekend and be careful driving. I know the roads are icey here in connecticut.

Totally! You really should sell and I will definitely buy, if the price is right. I have seen another person who does great doodles which are more like clip art then doodles (is that Selena above in the comments I'm wondering?) and she does custom work as well. I think what will set you apart is your doing watercolors and not technically doodles that are colored or crayon'd in. Its great that you're doing them much larger now and I think you've really perfected your whole presentation now too so its only logical you take the next step and try to sell. Thanks!!! :D (Sorry gotta cut it short, my DD is up... )

and my son loves dragons and knights
and he was very happy about your dinos too

I don't know why you shouldn't sell your work. It's great, individual and just right for all the kids layouts we all create every day. And with you cusomization idea I think you found defenitely a niche which gives you a lot of business opportunities. If you decide to start your own business I wish you good luck. You can't fail.

I love your work -they are unique because everyone is doing doodles now, but yours are watercolors - which are softer but very cute.

If I were to buy them I would prefer they were in a kit. I admit I tend to pick up a lot of freebies and have "pieces" that I have to find matches for. So when I do purchase it is almost always a KIT because then everything coordinates (paper, embellies) and I don't have to search for things to match.
Hope that helps! Best wishes!

I love your doodles. The bright, vibrant colors are wonderful. I think you could even make papers with doodles as elements.

I like the balance of boy/girl things. In fact, last night my son and I made a "drawing" from your doodles, which we then printed and gave to his teacher. He signed it "D.J. loves Ms. Hamburger". She was very touched.

I think your doodles would be great for scrapping, cards, and the like.

Keep us posted, and good luck on the move!
