I know how you feel. My 2nd son was in the NICU for 9 days. For the first few days, he was on a ventilator, as well as drugs that pretty much knocked him out. Visiting him was - and here's my guilt - almost boring after 5 minutes or so. I would get his update from the nurses, and then sit and watch him for a little, although he did nothing.
I ended up staying in a room just off the NICU, and got lots of sleep. It was the best way to physically recover from having a baby.
Don't beat yourself up too much. From the other posts you've done, you've more than made up for it now.
